Butt plugs for beginners: sizes, shapes and how to use one
Your first plug, your next size up or a jewelled one for the bedroom: how to choose it, get it in and enjoy it.
A butt plug gives you that full, stretched feeling and keeps it there, whether you’re playing solo, warming up for a big dick or wearing one under your jeans on a night out. The flared base keeps it seated and safe, so you can stop holding it and start enjoying it.
Choosing your first plug
- Size: start small. A slim, tapered plug is easier to take and still feels great. Our beginner plugs come in small, medium and large, so you can go up as you get comfortable.
- Shape: a tapered tip for easy entry, a narrow neck for your ass to close around, and a wide, flared base.
- Material: silicone is soft, flexible and body-safe; glass and stainless steel are smooth, firm and heavier, and feel amazing warmed or cooled.
How to put a butt plug in
- Warm up first. Relax, breathe and start with a lubed finger.
- Use plenty of lube on the plug and on your hole. Water-based lube works with every material.
- Push gently while you bear down slightly; it helps your muscles open.
- Go slowly past the widest part, then let your ass close around the neck.
- If it hurts, stop, add lube and try a smaller size. You’re after pleasure, not pain.
How long can you wear one?
Start with 15 to 30 minutes. As you get used to it you can wear a comfortable plug for longer, but take it out if you feel pain, numbness or discomfort, and never sleep in one.
Going further
- Vibrating plugs add buzz to the fullness; ours have 10 speeds.
- Expandable plugs pump up for a bigger stretch.
- Jewelled plugs in steel or alloy look as good as they feel.
- Tail plugs add a fluffy fox tail for play and photos.
- Anal beads give you a pop with every bead, in and out.
Anal training
Want to take bigger toys, or bigger guys? Work up through the sizes over weeks, not hours. Get comfortable at each size before you move up, and always warm up with something smaller first.
Tip: Only put toys with a flared base in your ass. Anything without one can slip all the way in.
