Chastity cages: a beginner’s guide to getting locked up

Denial, control and a whole lot of anticipation: how to choose a cock cage, fit it and wear it safely.

2 min read · Updated 1 October 2026

A chastity cage locks your cock away, so you can’t get fully hard or touch yourself until the key comes out. For some guys it’s about denial and building desperate, dripping anticipation; for others it’s handing control to the man who holds the key. Either way, a good fit makes all the difference.

How a chastity cage works

Most cages have two parts: a ring that sits behind your balls and a cage that holds your cock. A lock joins them, and with the ring behind your balls, the cage can’t be pulled off.

Choosing a cage

  • Material: stainless steel is sturdy, easy to clean and has a satisfying weight. Plastic and resin cages are lighter and easier to wear for longer.
  • Ring size: the most important measurement. Too tight pinches and restricts blood flow; too loose and you’ll slip out. Check the sizes listed on each product.
  • Cage length: the cage should hold your soft cock comfortably, without squashing it or leaving lots of room to grow.

Putting it on

  • Start soft. Cold water helps if you’re a little too excited.
  • Put the ring on behind your balls, one ball at a time, then your shaft.
  • Slide the cage over your cock, line it up with the ring and lock it.
  • Check you can move, sit and pee comfortably before the key goes anywhere.

How long to wear it

Start with an hour or two at home. Build up slowly and take it off to clean every day. Only try overnight once daytime wear feels easy: morning wood in a cage is part of the fun, and part of the challenge.

Staying safe

  • Take it off straight away if you notice numbness, coldness, swelling, pain or skin turning dark or blue.
  • Keep a spare key where you, or your keyholder, can reach it fast.
  • Wash yourself and the cage every day with warm water and mild soap, and dry both well.
  • Agree limits and a safe word with your keyholder before you start.

Tip: Ask your keyholder to set a release time. Knowing exactly when you’ll be let out makes the wait hotter, not scarier.

Good questions

How long can you wear a chastity cage?

Start with an hour or two and build up slowly. Take it off to clean every day, and straight away if anything hurts or feels numb.

How do I find my ring size?

Measure around the base of your cock and balls when soft, divide by 3.14 for the diameter, and compare it with the ring sizes on the product.

Can you pee in a chastity cage?

Yes, cages have an opening at the tip. Sitting down is easier; rinse and dry afterwards.
