How to douche: an anal douching guide for gay guys
Clean, relaxed and ready: a step-by-step guide to douching before sex, without the stress or the irritation.
Plenty of bottoms douche before sex so they can relax and enjoy it. It’s simple once you know how, and a few habits make it quicker, more comfortable and kinder to your body.
What you need
- A bulb douche or an electric douche with a smooth, slim nozzle.
- Lukewarm plain water.
- A little water-based lube for the nozzle.
- Ten to twenty minutes, near a toilet.
Step by step
- Fill the douche with lukewarm water: body temperature, never hot or cold.
- Put a little lube on the nozzle and relax. Squatting, or one leg up on the toilet, both work.
- Insert the nozzle gently and squeeze slowly. Don’t fill yourself right up; a partial bulb is plenty.
- Hold briefly, then release on the toilet.
- Repeat until the water runs clear. Two or three gentle rinses is usually enough.
How long before sex?
Give yourself 30 to 60 minutes before sex so any leftover water can come out and your body can settle.
Mistakes to avoid
- Douching too often or with lots of water, which can irritate the lining of your ass.
- Adding soap, salt or anything else to the water.
- High-pressure shower attachments.
- Forcing the nozzle. If it doesn’t slide in easily, relax and add more lube.
Tip: Eating more fibre in the day or two before makes douching quicker and easier. Many guys find they need fewer rinses.
Enemas & douches
Good questions
How long before sex should I douche?
About 30 to 60 minutes before, so leftover water can come out.
Is it bad to douche every day?
Frequent or heavy douching can irritate. Keep it gentle, use plain lukewarm water and only as much as you need.
Bulb or electric douche?
Both work. Electric douches do the squeezing for you and give a steady, even spray; bulbs are simple, cheap and travel well.
